Mobile communication, roaming in Italy
Does your operator have prohibitive tariffs for roaming in Italy? Do you want to use phone and internet during your vacation without thinking about the cost?
You can easily buy a SIM card from an Italian operator, and use it without paying much!
Main operators in Italy: Wind (the most economical at the moment for tourists), Vodafone, TIM.
In La Spezia there are many service centres where these cards are sold.
Cost of a SIM card: EUR 10, of which 5 are credited to your account.
Due to hilly terrain, signals are not available on all the walking trails, nevertheless, 90% of the Cinque Terre territory is covered by Italian operators.
Additional services (don’t forget to activate while purchasing your number!):
1. Internet: if you plan to use Internet, you will need to activate a service package. Internet costs EUR 1 to 3 per week, and it depends upon the operator you choose.
2. International Calls: for about EUR 1 per month, you get access to super tariffs for international calls, the majority of which will cost you cheaper than national Italian calls.
Update: roaming in European countries was eliminated in 2017.
